Alternative ways to enter a game action

The ThrustMapper has two supplemental tools for assigning game actions to buttons: the Action Editor and the Virtual Keyboard.

Action Editor

The Action Editor is called up through View | Action Editor in the edit screen menu bar. The editor is a "floating" tool, which may be moved anywhere on-screen (click and drag).

The editor displays the game actions contained in the current script file. Each game action label is shown along with its associated keystroke sequence or DirectInput ID. An arrow symbol in the left column indicates the game action that is assigned to the currently selected button.

How to reassign a game action using the Action Editor

  1. Press the button you wish to change.

  2. Click on the game action listed in the Action Editor you wish to assign to that button. That's all there is to it! The arrow pointing to the previously assigned game action is cleared automatically.
  3. Repeat these steps until you have reassigned all the actions as you want them, and then click the Close button. Save the script.

How to add a new game action to the list

  1. Click on the New button.

  2. Assign a button ID or a key sequence just like you would in the edit screen. If you make a mistake entering either the ID or keystrokes, click on the Clear button and re-enter the information.

  3. Click on the Save button, and the new game action is added to the list.

  4. The new game action can be assigned to a button now. Press a button on the control, click on the new game action in the Action Editor, and lastly click on the Close button in the Action Editor. Remember to save the script file before exiting.

Editing a game action listed in the action list

  1. Click on the game action you wish to edit in the Action Editor.

  2. Click on the Edit action button.

  3. Edit the description and keystrokes just as you would in the edit screen, and then click on the Save button. Click on the Close button, and save the script.

Deleting a game action listed in the action list

  1. Click on the game action you wish to delete.

  2. Click on Delete action.

Virtual Keyboard

An on-screen keyboard can be called up through View | Virtual Keyboard. The keyboard is a "floating" tool, which may be moved anywhere on-screen (click and drag).

Game actions can be entered with the on-screen keyboard by clicking on the Clear button next to the Key sequence box in the edit screen, and then clicking on a key on the on-screen keyboard. If you make a mistake, click on the Clear button and click on another on-screen key. For game actions that use key combinations, click on the appropriate modal keys (SHIFT, ALT, CTRL) in the upper left corner to turn the necessary keys from green to red. The example keyboard shown above has SHIFT and CNTL selected (they are highlighted in red). If the z key is clicked on next, the combination keystroke CTL Z (upper case, or shifted, z) will be entered in the Key sequence box.
